Installing the Client

  1. Uninstall any previous VPN connection software.
  2. Restart your computer.
  3. Download the newest version of the Cisco AnyConnect VPN client from the Argonne credentials site.
  4. Select the correct version for your computer operating system, and open the file.
  5. Some computers will show a security warning. Click "Run."


  6. The installer will open.


  7. Click "next, " and accept the license agreement.
  8. The program will self-install.
  9. You do not need to download connection profiles for the AnyConnect client.


  1. Open the VPN client by going to Start (lower left corner) --> Programs --> Cisco --> Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client.
  2. This is what you will see the first time you open the client.


  3. Type "" in the "Connect to" field.
  4. A dropdown menu and fields for username and password will appear.
  5. Select "2 SSLVPN" from the dropdown menu, and enter your username and password.


  6. Click "Connect."
  7. The VPN client will minimize after it connects. The lock icon will appear in  your system tray (lower right corner of your screen) when you are connected.


  1. Right-click on the lock icon in the system tray and click "Disconnect" or "Close," OR
  2. Double-click the lock icon in the system tray to open the VPN window. Click "Disconnect."
